city began as a British military port and was changed to be the center of
Queens County in 1855, taking the name Charlottetown.
Charlottetown is the capitol of PEI and the island Provence’s biggest city as well as its economic and tourist hub. It has a population of 34, 562 people according to the latest Canadian census. The city is 44.33 square kilometers and rests on the Southern shore of the island. Charlottetown is located in the Appalachian Mountains region. It has rich red soil from the red sandstone PEI is made of. This sandy, fine, well-drained soil is perfect for growing potatoes. The iconic red soil is also used for dye in many local shirt companies for tourists to purchase. |
